1600 판다+의 세계여행 프로젝트
<1600 판다+의 세계여행 프로젝트>는 WWF(세계자연보호기금) 프랑스 지사와 전 세계에 남아있는 야생 판다의 개체수인
1600마리의 판다를 재활용 종이의 빠삐에 마쉐 수공예 작품으로 탄생시킨 아티스트 파울로 그랑종(Paulo Grangeon)의 협업으로
2008년 시작되었습니다.
프로젝트 제목의 “+”가 의미하는 바는 지난 10년 간 대형 야생 판다의 개체수가 증가하여 1,800마리를 넘게 된 사실뿐만 아니라,
판다를 포함한 야생동물 보호에 대한 의식을 높이기 위한 꿈을 나타냅니다.
전 세계를 순회하며 100회에 가까운 전시를 마친 후 한국에 최초로 상륙하는 판다들은, 인간과 자연이 성공적으로 공존할 수 있는
지속 가능한 환경을 발전시키는 데에 큰 도움을 줄 것입니다.
<1600 PANDAS+> is a collaboration which began in 2008 between WWF-France and artist Paulo Grangeon, who handcrafted
1600 pandas — the number of existing pandas left in the wild — with recycled materials to make papier-mâché sculptures.
The title "1600 PANDAS+" refers not only to the increase in the population of wild giant pandas to over 1,800 in the past
decade, but also to increased public awareness of wildlife conservation.
After ruling nearly 100 exhibitions around the world, the pandas will land in Korea for the first time to promote the city’s
creative industry by fostering a sustainable environment where humans and nature can successfully coexist.

그러나 만약 모든 동물들이 사라진다면, 인간과 지구 또한 사라질 것이다."
"If all humans die, all animals will survive with the earth.
But if all animals die, the earth and humans will disappear," said Grangeon."
파울로 그랑종은 30년 넘게 공예활동을 해온 프랑스 출신의 조각가입니다.
1997년 태국의 빠삐에 마쉐 공예에 매료된 파울로는 프랑스에 도자기와 종이공예 워크샵을 설립했습니다.
이후 그는 보다 심도 있는 연구를 위해 태국에서 활동하는 종이공예가들과 활발히 교류하였고, 2008년 세계자연보호기금의
초청으로 “1600 판다” 월드투어를 계획하게 됩니다.
현재까지 그는 태국에서 10,000마리가 넘는 빠삐에 마쉐 판다들을 만들었고, 판다 이외에도 프랑스 해양부를 위한 120마리의
빠삐에 마쉐 고래, 대만을 위한 200마리의 빠삐에 마쉐 흑곰을 제작하기도 하며 자연보존 및 멸종위기에 처한 동식물에 관한
대중들의 인식을 재고시키기 위한 작품 활동을 진행하고 있습니다.
Paulo Grangeon is a French sculptor who has been active in his craft for more than 30 years.
In 1997, Paulo was mesmerized by the Thai craft of papier-mâché and started his own ceramics and papier- mâché
workshop in France.
He then frequented Thailand to further study the art. In 2008, Paulo was invited by the World Wildlife Fund to create the
"1600 Panda" world tour.
To date, he's made more than ten thousand papier-mâché pandas in Thailand.
He has been continuing his art work to raise the public awareness on environmental and endangered animal protection,
by molding 120 papier-mâché whales for the overseas Ministry of Maritime Affairs of France and 200 papier-mâché black
bears for Taiwan.
